Earlobe repair surgery in Columbia, SC

Earlobe repair is a procedure to correct earlobes that have been stretched from heavy earrings, gauges, injured, or earlobes that are abnormally shaped or torn. The nice, round, normal contour can be restored, and then the earlobe can be re-pierced.

Am I a candidate?

Earlobe repair surgery may be a suitable procedure for you if:

  • Your earrings have been torn or pulled out of your ears (due to getting caught on clothing or children pulling on them).
  • Gauges have stretched out your earlobes.
  • The aging process has stretched your earlobes or made them droopy.
  • You have multiple piercings close together.

Your private consultation with Dr. Moses

Dr. Moses will examine your earlobes during your initial consultation and discuss your surgical plan. She will ask questions about your aesthetic goals, tell you what to expect, and answer any questions.

Your surgical appointment

Earlobe repair surgery is a simple outpatient procedure performed under local anesthetics. Once these have taken effect, she will perform your procedure using the best technique for your unique circumstances. Dr. Moses will remove any damaged skin around your torn earlobe. Next, she will reattach both sides using fine sutures.

How long will my earlobe repair take?

How long earlobe repair takes depends on how many piercings need to be repaired or the extent of damage to your earlobes. Generally, your surgery should take between 15 and 30 minutes. In rare instances, the procedure may take up to an hour.

Recovery after earlobe repair

Once your earlobe repair surgery has been completed, you can go home with a small piece of gauze covering your earlobe or earlobes. You should be back at work the next day, and many patients can even return to work on the same day.

Re-piercing your ears after earlobe repair

Once your earlobes have fully healed, you can re-pierce your ears if you wish to.

Keep in mind:

  • We recommend waiting about three months to ensure the best possible results
  • Your new piercings should be at least 3 mm from the site of your previous piercing

Post-operative instructions

Dr. Moses will provide detailed instructions to help make your healing process as rapid and smooth as possible. You should avoid sleeping or putting pressure on your ears for the first week or so. After about a week, your sutures will be removed, after which you can resume most activities.
