Preparing for your microneedling appointment

A month before your microneedling appointment, you may be asked to apply vitamin A or C cream to your skin. Using these creams ahead of your treatment can jumpstart the process of collagen production.

Your private consultation with Dr. Moses

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that:

  • Triggers natural collagen production
  • Smooths lines, wrinkles, and creases
  • Treats visible scars and stretch marks

During your private consultation with Dr. Moses, she will discuss your expectations for this procedure and examine your skin and health history to assess if microneedling will achieve desired results. It is the perfect opportunity to discuss concerns or ask questions about facial rejuvenation.

The microneedling procedure

Like many of the treatments we provide, microneedling is minimally invasive. You will only need a numbing cream applied to the areas to be treated 30 to 45 minutes before it begins. A handheld roller, covered with tiny needles, will gently and slowly pass across your skin.

The needles pulse up and down, creating micro-injuries in the skin. If your goal is to treat deeper scars, longer needles are used. Depending on the treatment site, this procedure can last between 15 minutes and a few hours.

Recovering after your microneedling treatment

After your microneedling treatment, you can go home. Your skin may be swollen and red immediately afterward, but this will fade in about five days. Using an ice pack can address any discomfort you might feel.

24 hours after microneedling:

You can resume your usual activities after treatment. After 24 hours, you can begin wearing makeup again.

Days after microneedling:

In the days following your treatment, you might experience a burning sensation on your skin. You should apply moisturizer to address dry, flakey skin.

Follow-up care

You could need up to two follow-up microneedling sessions after your initial appointment to achieve the best results. If you choose to have follow-up treatments, waiting 4 to 6 weeks is essential. To care for your skin after your appointment, it is important to:

  • Wear sunscreen
  • Avoid tanning beds
  • Avoid smoking
  • Stay hydrated
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to ensure you get the vitamins and minerals your body needs

Microneedling vs. other treatments

Conventional versus radiofrequency microneedling:

There are two different types of microneedling – conventional and radiofrequency. The traditional form of this treatment utilizes a handheld roller with tiny needles that puncture the skin. On the other hand, radiofrequency microneedling uses energized needles, sending heat to the skin. Both stimulate the production of new collagen, though radiofrequency microneedling is often more effective when addressing severe skin issues.
