What to expect

Your private consultation with Dr. Moses

Scar revision can address surgical scars, trauma scars, and acne-scarred skin, leaving any located on the face or body much less visible. In your private consultation with Dr. Moses, she will examine the scars, discuss the procedure, and recommend a treatment.

Your scar revision appointment

Anesthesia will be administered to ensure you feel comfortable during your scar revision appointment. Depending on the nature and size of your scar, Dr. Moses will decide which technique is most effective. Sometimes, she may use multiple methods to achieve the best results.

The scar revision procedure

There are many different scar revision treatments—the type of scar you have and its severity will determine the procedure you need. Steroid injections may reduce the appearance of keloid scars, which are typically thick and discolored. However, if noninvasive treatments do not work, Dr. Moses can surgically remove keloid scars. To close the wound, skin grafts may be necessary. Contractures similarly require surgical removal. Skin grafts or flaps can be used to address the missing skin.

Recovery after scar revision treatment

Although the recovery process will vary, depending on the size of the treated area and the technique used, most of the discoloration, swelling, and pain will resolve in two weeks.
During the recovery process, it is crucial to:

  • Get plenty of rest
  • Maintain a balanced diet
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take your pain medication as prescribed
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Avoid exposing the treated areas to the sun for at least one year
  • Always apply sunblock if you cannot avoid the sun

Follow-up care

To monitor your healing, Dr. Moses will schedule follow-up appointments. If your treatment included sutures, you could expect these to be removed between 3 and 14 days. Contact Dr. Moses immediately if you notice anything unusual, such as a fever, yellowish drainage, or odor emanating from the incisions.
