What to Expect:

Your private consultation with Dr. Helen Moses

A lift lip and lip augmentation are two lip rejuvenation and enhancement methods. Depending on your goal, Dr. Moses will discuss creating the ideal pout for your features – never overdone.

Your lip enhancement appointment

If you opt for a lip lift, you will likely be given local anesthesia unless you have other procedures performed.

The lip enhancement procedure

During the lip lift procedure, skin is removed from between your nose and the border of your upper lip. As a result, the upper lip will roll upward, creating a fuller appearance. It is a relatively simple procedure that takes about an hour to perform.
If you are having lip augmentation performed, this is a less time-consuming process. Dr. Moses will inject a filler, such as Juvéderm, which is hyaluronic acid-based. The results will become apparent almost right away.

Recovery after a lip enhancement procedure

After a lip lift, your upper lip will be swollen and sore. You can expect the swelling to worsen throughout the next several days before it begins to dissipate and heal. Lip augmentations, on the other hand, are non-invasive and do not require much during a recovery period.

The first few days after surgery:

For the first 3 to 5 days, you should maintain a diet of soft foods and liquids. You should avoid opening your mouth too wide.

6 to 8 weeks after surgery:

The incisions will appear fully healed though you may continue to feel some tightness for another few months.

Follow-up care

Be sure to stick to your follow-up appointments with Dr. Moses, so she can monitor your recovery and ensure the best results. You should also care for yourself at home throughout the healing process by:

  • Taking care of your incisions
  • Avoiding strenuous activities
  • Staying hydrated
  • Eating a healthy, vitamin-rich diet

Do not take any medications not approved by Dr. Moses, especially avoid taking pain medications like ibuprofen or aspirin.

Lip enhancement results

The final results of your lip lift will begin to settle within three months. Given the invasive nature of this procedure, the results are meant to last a lifetime, though you should always consider the natural effects of aging.  Lip augmentation, however, is temporary. Generally, most of these fillers last anywhere from 12 to 18 months, so you must return for additional sessions to maintain your results.

Lip enhancement vs. other treatments

  • Fat transfer
During this procedure, Dr. Moses will remove fat from another part of your body and insert it into your lips for a fuller, more youthful appearance.
  • Lip implants
For a permanent solution to thinning lips, lip implants are another option. The implant is typically made of soft plastic, such as silicone.
